Released on June 20, 1989, Anderson Bruford Wakeman Howe is the self-titled debut and only studio album by the progressive rock supergroup consisting of four core members of the band Yes. Following a desire to return to their classic art-rock roots, Jon Anderson, Bill Bruford, Rick Wakeman, and Steve Howe reunited to create a sprawling, thematic work that bypassed the more commercial direction of their previous era. Recorded at Air Studios in Montserrat and Horseback Ridge in London, the project was produced by Chris Kimsey and Jon Anderson. The album features the band's signature complex time signatures, virtuosic keyboard textures, and soaring vocal harmonies, particularly evident on multi-part epics like Brother of Mine and Order of the Universe. Additional contributions include Tony Levin on bass and stick, adding a unique low-end dynamic to the arrangements. The cover art, created by longtime collaborator Roger Dean, further reinforces the connection to the progressive rock tradition. This release explores themes of spiritual journey, universal connection, and creative rebirth, standing as a landmark of the late 1980s progressive rock revival.
