An American Tail, released on November 21, 1986, tells the story of Fievel Mousekewitz, a young Russian mouse who immigrates to America with his family. Major voice actors include Phillip Glasser as Fievel, Dom DeLuise as Tiger, Nehemiah Persoff as Papa Mousekewitz, Erica Yohn as Mama Mousekewitz, Madeline Kahn as Gussie Mausheimer, and Christopher Plummer as Henri. It was directed by Don Bluth and produced by Don Bluth, Gary Goldman, and John Pomeroy, with Steven Spielberg as executive producer. The film earned a worldwide box office of approximately $84.5 million.
The sequel, An American Tail: Fievel Goes West, was released on November 22, 1991. In this film, Fievel and his family venture further west. Voice actors include Phillip Glasser as Fievel, Cathy Cavadini as Tanya Mousekewitz, Dom DeLuise as Tiger, James Stewart as Wylie Burp (in his final film role), John Cleese as Cat R. Waul, and Jon Lovitz as T.R. Chula. The film was directed by Phil Nibbelink and Simon Wells, and produced by Steven Spielberg and Robert Watts. It grossed approximately $20.2 million domestically.
