The self-titled debut album Alannah Myles by Canadian singer Alannah Myles was released on March 28, 1989. It was her first album. The album featured the massive international hit single "Black Velvet," along with other singles such as "Love Is," "Still Got This Thing," and "Lover of Mine." The album was a commercial success, reaching number one in Canada for two weeks, number five on the US Billboard 200 chart, and number three on the UK Albums Chart. It achieved Diamond certification in Canada for sales of over one million copies. In the United States, it was certified Platinum by the RIAA for sales of one million copies. Other certifications include 3x Platinum in Australia, Platinum in Germany, Sweden, Switzerland, and New Zealand, and Gold in the United Kingdom and Austria. The album also performed well on the Billboard charts, with "Black Velvet" reaching number one on the Hot 100.
