Over the Hedge is an animated comedy film released in 2006, based on the comic strip of the same name by Michael Fry and T. Lewis. The story follows a mischievous raccoon named RJ who finds himself in a predicament after accidentally disturbing the hibernation stash of a bear named Vincent. To make up for his mistake, RJ promises to replace the stolen food within one week, or else Vincent will have him for dinner.
Desperate to fulfill his promise, RJ stumbles upon a suburban neighborhood inhabited by a group of woodland creatures: a timid turtle named Verne, a hyperactive squirrel named Hammy, a skunk named Stella, a porcupine named Spike, and a family of possums. He convinces the animals to help him scavenge for food from the nearby human community. As they embark on their mission, the animals quickly discover the wonders and dangers of the human world.
Throughout the journey, the animals learn about friendship, teamwork, and the importance of family. The film explores themes of consumerism, suburban life, and the impact of human encroachment on wildlife habitats, all presented in a lighthearted and humorous way.
"Over the Hedge" features an ensemble cast of talented voice actors, including Bruce Willis as RJ, Garry Shandling as Verne, Steve Carell as Hammy, and William Shatner as Ozzie the possum. With its engaging storyline, witty humor, and vibrant animation, the movie appeals to audiences of all ages, making it a beloved family-friendly animated film.
