Ghostbusters is a 1984 American supernatural comedy film directed by Ivan Reitman and written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis. The movie stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver, and Rick Moranis.
The movie follows three eccentric parapsychologists - Peter Venkman (Murray), Ray Stantz (Aykroyd), and Egon Spengler (Ramis) - who start a ghost-catching business in New York City after losing their academic jobs. They hire Winston Zeddemore (Hudson) as their fourth member and develop high-tech equipment to trap ghosts. Their first major case involves a haunting at the Sedgewick Hotel, which leads to a surge in business.
Meanwhile, Venkman becomes romantically involved with their client, Dana Barrett (Weaver), who experiences strange occurrences in her apartment building. The Ghostbusters soon discover that Dana's building is a gateway to another dimension and that the supernatural activity in the city is being caused by an ancient Sumerian god named Gozer.
The Ghostbusters face off against Gozer and his minions in a final showdown at the top of Dana's apartment building, using their technology and intelligence to save the world from destruction.
"Ghostbusters" was a commercial and critical success and is now considered a classic of 1980s cinema. It spawned a sequel, an animated television series, comic books, video games, and a 2016 reboot film.
