    Chant is an album by the Benedictine Monks of Santo Domingo de Silos, released in 1994. The album features recordings of Gregorian chants, a form of medieval liturgical music that originated in the Catholic Church and is characterized by its use of unaccompanied vocal melody.  

    The chants on the album are sung in Latin and feature a variety of styles, including antiphonal chants, hymns, and responsories. The voices of the monks, who sing in a deep, resonant tone, are accompanied only by the natural acoustics of the monastery where the recordings were made.

    The album became a surprise hit, reaching the top of the Billboard Classical Music charts and selling millions of copies worldwide. Its popularity was due in part to the growing interest in New Age and World Music, as well as the timeless appeal of the ancient chants themselves.

    "Chant" is known for its peaceful and meditative quality, with many listeners using it as a form of relaxation or as background music for yoga or meditation. It has also been used in film and television soundtracks, most notably in the opening sequence of the film "The Da Vinci Code".
