The album Jarreau by Al Jarreau was released on March 28, 1983. It was his sixth studio album. Hit singles from the album include "Mornin'," which reached number 21 on the U.S. Pop chart and number 2 on the Adult Contemporary chart for three weeks, "Boogie Down," which peaked at number 77 on the U.S. Pop chart, and "Trouble in Paradise," which reached number 63 on the U.S. Pop chart and number 10 on the Adult Contemporary chart. The album was Al Jarreau's third consecutive number 1 album on the Billboard Jazz charts. It also reached number 4 on the Billboard R&B album charts and number 13 on the Billboard 200. In 2001, the album was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for sales of over one million copies.
