Coach Carter is a 2005 sports drama film directed by Thomas Carter and starring Samuel L. Jackson, Rob Brown, and Channing Tatum. The film is based on the true story of Ken Carter, a high school basketball coach who made headlines in 1999 for suspending his entire team due to their poor academic performance.

The film follows the story of Ken Carter, who takes on the job of coaching the basketball team at Richmond High School in California, a school with a troubled history of gang violence and academic underachievement. Carter is determined to instill discipline and academic excellence in his players, and makes them sign a contract committing to maintaining a minimum GPA and attending all of their classes.

As the basketball team begins to experience success on the court, Carter's focus on academics and discipline begins to clash with the players' desire to focus solely on basketball. This conflict comes to a head when Carter suspends the entire team for failing to meet their academic commitments, putting their championship season in jeopardy.
