Charlie Wilson's War is a 2007 biographical comedy-drama film directed by Mike Nichols and starring Tom Hanks, Julia Roberts, and Philip Seymour Hoffman. The movie is based on the true story of Congressman Charlie Wilson, who helped fund the Afghan Mujahideen in their fight against the Soviet Union during the 1980s.

The film follows Wilson, a womanizing and hard-partying congressman from Texas, who becomes aware of the plight of the Afghan people during the Soviet invasion. With the help of a wealthy Houston socialite, Joanne Herring, and a rogue CIA agent, Gust Avrakotos, Wilson sets out to fund the Afghan resistance movement, which ultimately leads to the Soviet Union's withdrawal from Afghanistan.

Throughout the film, Wilson faces opposition from within the government, as many officials are hesitant to get involved in the conflict due to political and strategic concerns. However, with his charm, wit, and determination, Wilson manages to navigate the complex political landscape to secure the necessary funding and support for the Mujahideen.
